The most efficient outdoor lighting system is one that uses solar energy, which is both clean and renewable. Given the issues caused by global warming, there is a rising need for energy-efficient lighting. Recent studies have shown that when compared to conventional street lighting, which can emit up to 6% carbon dioxide, solar-powered lights can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 50%. Studies are being performed to increase solar efficiency and lower component costs with the goal of making solar lighting affordable for every home and company. The solar sector is expanding quickly.

Components

350W Solar Street Light Outdoor application
A solar street light system's key components are:
Solar panel: Solar panels are mounted to the top of the pole at an appropriate tilt to receive the most direct sunlight possible throughout the day. Solar energy is used by solar panels to create direct current, which is then used to charge the battery. Solar street lighting systems commonly employ mono- or poly-crystalline solar panels.

LED lamp: The controller and batteries are built into the luminary itself in today's solar street lights. Traditional solar street lights utilized fluorescent and incandescent lamps, however it is commonly known that LED technology uses less energy, lasts longer, and emits no UV light.

Charge controller: A charge controller's main job is to prolong battery life by preventing deep drain or overcharging. As a regulator, it turns off the light when there is a deep discharge and disconnects the PV module when there is an overcharge. The most popular charge controllers for solar street lighting are PWM or MPPT.

Battery: The battery, which is used to power the LED at night, stores the energy produced by the solar panels. In the past, solar street lighting used lead acid batteries. The most recent lights employ lithium-ion or LiFePO4 batteries because of their compact size, excellent efficiency, and several other benefits.

Wire connections: During installation, just a very small amount of cabling is needed to link the batteries, light, and solar panels.

Thermally galvanized steel poles can last for over 40 years without rusting. Before being utilized, the poles are professionally maintained and protected to endure all kinds of inclement weather.

Operating Principle of solar-powered street lights

Solar street lights work on the same basic idea as other solar lights: the photovoltaic effect. Throughout the day, the photovoltaic cells (also known as solar cells) in panels convert solar energy into electrical energy, which is then stored in the battery. The controller aids in controlling this current's voltage. At dark, the lamp begins to take electricity from the battery and illuminates the light source until daybreak.

Solar street lights with motion sensors and dimming

1. All-in-one solar street light: This form of light combines an LED, a solar panel, a controller, and a battery into a single assembly. These lights turn on at nightfall and automatically dim to 20% brightness after a brief pause. These lights include motion sensors that, when they see movement, electrically turn up the brightness to 100%. If no motion is detected after a certain amount of time, the light is set back to 20% brightness.

2. Integrated solar street light: Battery, controller, and luminary are molded into a single device. Solar panel is supplied as a separate item. From nightfall to morning, integrated solar street lights from the Model I operate at full brightness. The integrated solar street lights from the Model II run at full brightness for the first four hours before reducing their brightness for the remainder of the night.

3. Semi-integrated solar street light: This vintage system, which combined the luminary, lighting source, and controller into a single piece with an external solar panel and battery box, is currently not very popular.
